Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
After 25 years with my old Trek bike, I recently had it serviced ready for the miles ahead and quickly realised it just wasn’t as comfortable as it used to be. That got me thinking—it was time for something new, technology moves on. As a loyal Trek fan, I set my sights on the latest model, the Trek Domane (though I’m still not sure how to pronounce it!).
After extensive online research, I went back to Dooleys Cycle in Paisley (25 years after buying my first Trek bike and the subsequent 2 other Trek bikes thereafter) and I treated myself to the full setup—Garmin, lights, the works—and immediately noticed the difference!
The Domane is incredibly light, so responsive, stable, strong with smooth electronic gears, which makes changing gear seamless and so easy, wow!
The light carbon wheels come with tubeless tires. Tubeless tyres are an absolute game changer for me, due to enhanced puncture resistance, reduced rolling resistance, and the ability to run lower pressures for improved grip and comfort which meant I could get a puncture and just keep cycling. The guy in the bike shop counted 35 punctures he had in his tubeless tyre before he had to change it. Training now feels like a joy, not a chore.
I mentioned to Rachel about my new bike, and she immediately got FOMO. So much so she got the same bike, and i mean exactly the same. Now, we’re both riding our Treks and loving every minute. It’s honestly like going from driving a manual Polo to an automatic Jaguar. It’s the kind of upgrade that makes you wonder how you ever managed without it. I absolutely love it.
Geoff and Ollie helped us pick the bikes in the van up from Dooley’s Cycles in Paisley. After seeing the children trek bikes, I had to buy Ollie his first Trek bike as an early birthday present, see photo below of the three of us with our new bikes. Having a bike that makes every ride easier, and more fun is a real gift. I feel so lucky, and I can’t wait for all the adventures ahead and the Enduroman event in August 2026!
